The Red Devils are desperately seeking to sign a top central defender this summer who they want to come into the team and partner club captain Harry Maguire at the heart of their defense. United manager Olé Gunnar Solksjær reportedly does not have enough trust in Victor Lindelöf and has told the club’s board that the signing of another central defender should be made a top priority.
The Old Trafford outfit were heavily linked with Napoli’s Senegalese central defender Kalidou Koulibaly last season and were also touted to have registered an interest in France international defender Dayot Upamecano. However, they could not sign any of the two stars as Koulibaly was slapped with a hefty £90 million price tag, making him too expensive especially for a player around 28-years-old.
Upamecano is now off the market after striking an agreement in principle with Bayern Munich to join them in the summer from current club RB Leipzig. The Red Devils have, however, created a new lost of targets they will be pursuing in the summer and it contains the likes of Argentine central defender Cristian Romero, 23, who plays for Atalanta, Lille’s 22-year-old Dutch defender, and Devilla’s French central defender Jules Kounde, 22.
Villarreal’s Spain international defender Pau Torres is also on the list, giving Solksjær a healthy list of choices to pick from in the summer.
