BOLTON STRUGGLE

As Bolton Wanderers continue to struggle in the Championship, pressure has been increasing on managed Dougie Freedman. The club, who were relegated from the Premier league only a few years ago, are in danger of slipping into the third division of English football.

They are just five points above the relegation zone with several matches still left to play in the season. Another relegation would be catastrophic for the club, who recently revealed debts in excess of £ 150 million. There have been suggestions that Freedman would be sacked in order to prevent the club’s slide down the table.

However, Freedman has expressed his confidence that the club will be able to steer clear of the drop zone. It has been more than a month since Bolton last tasted success in the Championship. Their last victory came back on Boxing Day when they managed a win over Barnsley. Amongst the recent run of results is the 7-1 thrashing at the hands of Reading, which has served to make the already poor goal difference worse. Freedman has said that he is largely banking on the run of home matches, which would help the club pick points.

“If we don’t pick up points in them (home games) then I would be concerned, but we are looking forward to that run of games at home. People on the outside will be looking at the big picture – the financial situation as well. Sometimes you have to take one of two steps back to move forward and that’s what we seem to be doing, on and off the field,” the manager told the mufc news website.

Bolton will go into the weekend’s match against Bournemouth on the back of four consecutive defeats and things can only get better from this position. Bolton have a better goal difference than the teams surrounding them, which is positive.
