Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs claims that Marcus Rashford will be able to emulate the achievements of Thierry Henry at Arsenal.
The Frenchman is regarded as one of the greatest strikers in the history of the Premier league, and he is the record goalscorer for Arsenal. A number of players have been compared with the Arsenal great, and Marcus Rashford is amongst the latest. Manchester United also have another player in the ranks who is similar toHenry – Anthony Martial. Yet, the failings ofMartial in the last few years has led to suggestions that Rashford will be the player capable of stepping into the shoes of Henry.
Giggs has played with Henry on numerous occasions and he has given the highest possible praise for Rashford, who recently scored in the 2-0 win over Leicester City. Even though he has been overshadowed since the arrival of big-money signings like Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, the goal against Leicester City once again demonstrated the importance of Rashford, who is one of the last major players to come from the youth set up at Manchester United. One of the reasons for Rashford being compared with Henry is the use of his services in a wide role rather than in a central position. Henry scored most of his goals from this position.
“He’s [Rashford] not going to play centre-forward of United too often with Lukaku, Ibrahimovic as well. For England with [Harry] Kane, he’s not going to play centre-forward. He can definitely play out wide, but eventually he’s going to be a No. 9.I see similarities with Thierry Henry myself, he’s brilliant off the left. Even if he’s playing centre-forward, he drifts off to the left where you can take players on either side. But then, if he’s not played centre-forward a lot and all of a sudden Kane gets injured and you ask him to play up front, he can do it,” said Giggs.
